The spark that hasn't turned off for 16 years. Singer Taeyeon proved her variety of charms with her new song.

Taeyeon released her new digital single 'Can't Control Myself' on domestic and foreign music sites on January 17 at 6PM.

This single is the first song released in six months since the release of her single 'Weekend' released on July 6 last year, and is a track from her third full-length album released before the album's official release in February. As the main lyricist, Taeyeon took the lead in creating not only the directionality but the also the concept. She also put her heart and soul into the recording. Taeyeon said she felt unfamilliar with herself, because she participating more passionately in completing this song than any other song she's participated in.

It is also unfamiliar from the perspective of listeners. 'Can't Control Myself' is a pop-punk ballad genre with an attractive guitar sound. In the intro of the song, in a calm voice, Taeyeon talked about her opponent who was so crazy that it was difficult to control herself. In line with the intensifying sound, she raises the emotions and appeal to the fullest by increasing her vocal intensity. She attempted another significant variation once again by choosing a genre and singing method that definitely contrasts with her previous work while maintaining her unique attractive tone.

It's not a move she hasn't done before. Taeyeon has grown into a limitless vocalist by not settling for a specific genre or singing style, and performing many hit songs in her own various colours. Starting with the medium tempop pop 'I', soulful jazz 'Rain', tropical house pop 'Why', neo-soul urban pop 'Something New', emotional alternative pop 'Four Seasons', R&B pop with a warm vibe 'Happy', rhthmical R&B pop 'What Do I Call You', retro disco pop 'Weekend' and other released songs with various colours have proven how diligent Taeyeon has been as a vocalist.

Even though it has been 16 years since her debut, Taeyeon's moves to flexibly change her appearance in every song is always unfamiliar and so nice to see. It can raise surprises and curiousity even for long-time fans. This is one of Taeyeon's specialties.

There are various interpretations of the message in the new song. The 'You' in the lyrics and the male actor in the music video were set as the person the speaker (Taeyeon) loves and her lover, but at the same time, they are also seen as the music and stage that Taeyeon has long craved for. Even though there are sometimes exhausting and tough days due to her main job as a singer, in the end, Taeyeon's move to progress forward and grow resembles the speaker in 'Can't Control Myself'.

Amid such interest, the new song swept the top spot in domestic and foreign music charts. Taeyeon topped Genie and Bugs (in Korea), and the iTunes' Top Songs Charts in 14 regions around the world, including Thailand, Singapore, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Saudi Arabia. The song also topped China's QQ Music Music Video chart (for Korean music videos).

Taeyeon is a singer who has already reached an unrivaled level not only in terms of digital charts but also in terms of album sales. According to the 10-year cumulative album data released by Gaon Chart on January 12 (from January 2011 to November 2021), Taeyeon has sold a total of 1,051,567 albums with albums released in a row for six years since her solo debut. This is largest amount of albums sold among K-Pop female solo singers.

Apart from numerical achievements, Taeyeon's colorful moves deserve praise themselves. Taeyeon started her career as a singer as the main vocalist of the group Girls' Generation in 2007, and while promoting together with the Girls' Generation members, rose to the status of the representative K-Pop group with songs like 'Into the New World', 'Gee', 'Genie', Oh!', 'Hoot' and more.

She is also a musician who expanded her musical spectrum by continuously carrying out unit and solo activities without only remaining as part of a complete group as Girls' Generation. Taeyeon debuted as member of the unit 'Girls' Generation-TaeTiSeo' with Tiffany Young and Seohyun in 2012, and opened a new chapter as a solo singer in October 2015. In 2018, activities began with Sunny, Hyoyeon, Yuri, and Yoona, in a Girls' Generation's new unit, Girls' Generation-Oh!GG.

In addition, in December last year, SM Entertainment's joint winter album '2021 Winter SMTOWN : SMCU EXPRESS' contained a new song 'Melody' by Girls' Generation-Oh!GG. On January 3 this year, she released a new song 'Step Back' as a member of SM's new project group unit 'GOT the beat' (with Boa, Taeyeon, Hyoyeon, Seulgi, Wendy, Karina, Winter).

Taeyeon's spark that has been burning for 16 years also comes as a warm support and salvation to those who listen to her songs and watch her stages. As long as Taeyeon's spark doesn't turn off, the support and love of music fans for her is never expected to fade.
