[Melon Magazine] Taeyeon - Digital Single 'Four Seasons' 본문
2019.04.02 - "Even So, It's Still Taeyeon"'s Reconfirmation! Taeyeon 'Four Seasons'
Melon Top 100 Chart Review | Taeyeon vs. Jang Beomjune vs. Baek Yerin, and the results are?
(Note: In the text brackets, 'D' refers to Download chart, and 'S' refers to Streaming chart and the numbers refer to the ranking. Example D: 1 = #1 on Download chart)
It was neck and neck this week. Among the so-called strong digital music contenders Taeyeon, Jang Beomjune, Baek Yerin, and more, 'strong opponent' artists recently made comebacks around the same time and made headlines, so I'm sure that many fans have been watching the chart trends with interest because of that. Taeyeon's 'Four Seasons' (D: 1, S: 1) took #1 on the weekly chart. It was number 1 in both download and streaming.
This week's HOT! | "Even So, It's Still Taeyeon"'s Reconfirmation
The first time I heard 'Four Seasons', what appeared prominent to me was Taeyeon's vocals that were different from before. The laid back, groovy vocals that take on the rhythm were also different from the straight vocal texture she showed in 'I', 'Why', 'Fine', and other songs. As much as Taeyeon is originally known as a practice bug (someone who constantly practices), when she changes her vocal style, it's done naturally without seeing how much effort she puts in.
It's not a change in singing style only. As Taeyeon has never made a similar move in her discography before, in this step, she's showing a song with an alternative pop genre. If you think the center of previous Taeyeon's discography is modern rock and tropical house, it seems rather than those, it [the center of her discography] would be unconventional steps. Thanks to those unconventional steps, it gives off the impression that she has become much more diversified in her discography.
Although there hasn't been an official announcement yet, fans are speculating that this is a pre-release for the new full-length album. If she has shown this much exceptionality with just two songs, wouldn't it be nice to look forward to an album that's filled with music of various music styles this time too?
When you take into consideration that in recent charts there have been a string of comebacks by artists who are often called 'Strong Digital Music Contenders' such as Jang Beomjune, Baek Yerin, Kassy, Mamamoo, Epik High and more, in this situation, the good fight shown by Taeyeon cannot be explained except with the words "Trust and Listen to Taeng". Taeyeon, a singer in her 13th year, is firmly defending the number 1 spot despite the entry of rookies. I think it's a single that proves the modifier (nickname): "Even so, It's Still Taeyeon".
