[IDOLOGY] Taeyeon - 'Rain' Single Review (2016)

Kim Yoonha:

An agency releases a new song every week for one year. No matter how much SM Entertainment seems reckless, it is a very reasonable conclusion that the first protagonist of this project is Taeyeon. Having the position as Girls' Generation's main vocalist, "SM's civil servant" as she is jokingly called, her guaranteed results coupled with the impressive results from last year's solo activities, it's difficult to find a person as suitable as her as a starter for a long-term project where the results are unknown. And the two pop ballad numbers that "Trust in" Taeyeon sings will be like unblemished lucky charms for this project that will proceed for the rest of the year.

PICK! Yummy Fajita:

"Rain" released by Taeyeon with its authentic vocals which take into account the fans and the general public may not be a strong declaration such as the solo debut "I", but it still moistly seeps into the heart. The transition between the moist yet still sound (which matches the song's atmosphere) and the powerful chorus is like flowing water, her vocal ability is not shown off at all. Not excessive, not lacking, it is good pop in an ideal form that is widely loved without burden. On the other hand, the B-side "Secret" conveys a little deeper feeling with a refined and withdrawn atmosphere. It's a good enough gift for those who want to feel deeply calmer about Taeyeon's vocals.

Mimyo:

I think that the seasonality of "Rain" is a little odd, because a bright song about rain is usually associated with spring. The content is clearly about memories, pain, and longing, but with an energetic composition and arrangement, it finds a balance point with the feeling of sweet love. That type of neutrality adds to the sophistication that makes this song more elegant 'pop'. She has appeal and explosive power, but Taeyeon's great strength and class is being a vocalist who is able to coolly assimilate and separate the voice and singing posture rather than exaggerate emotion. Including "Secret", the details of the vocals are more remarkable than the piece of work 'I' and adds to the fun of listening to a 'song'.
