Music Video Pick!

Taeyeon - Spark

Squib:

The image of the cool shadows stand out more than the hot flames, but paradoxically, that captures the fierceness of the sparks that are just blooming. Along with the lyrics "Wake up the spark", the cut that sheds red light on Taeyeon's grim expression is the moment when the almost 4-minute music video was compressed into a single cut. On the rooftop and on the crane, "Throw yourself into the fire as if you're dancing", "Fly around the dawn", the scenes' image that illuminates Taeyeon and her dancers' figures leave a three-dimensional and abundant impression of the song 'Spark' and the person named Taeyeon, even if they don't evoke any metaphors or symbols. It is also a music video that displays the best synergy with the neat fashion magazine aesthetic of Kim Sejun, a newly appointed visual director in SM in 2019.

Album of the Year

8. Taeyeon - Purpose

Mino:

With Taeyeon's presence alone, which breathtakingly and elegantly assimilates 12 such fascinating tracks, the album sufficiently achieves it's "purpose". It is the matchless result of an artist's performance ability, which has already reached the stage of perfection, and the planning power that silently supports her.

*Should be 13 tracks but must be Mino's mistake.

Impressive Lyrics

Taeyeon - Four Seasons

"And now I want something new"

Jo Eunjae:

The most accurate lyrics that express the "weariness" at the end of a romantic relationship. And now, as if Taeyeon is putting down everything she has endured and dedicated during the four seasons for that love while wondering, 'Did I really love you?', her subdued recitation implies all the "reasons" hidden in between the lines of the song. Because it was directed like a line from a musical rather than lyrics of a song, it also works as a device that more dramatically unfolds the chorus after it.

"We missed each other, we are sick of each other"

Mino:

Is there a lyric that accurately expresses the period of weariness (slump) a relationship faces (whether it is a romantic relationship or a different type of thing)? It's a line that intensively expresses the bitterness of a faded relationship that you missed and are now just sick of.

Best Songs

19. Taeyeon - Four Seasons

Squib:

The questionable pebble, "Did I really love you?", thrown on top of the serene heart of acknowledging 'You were the whole world'. No one can express the subtle suspense caused by that question more effectively than Taeyeon.
